We're looking for people that are going to fit in at Kier. So we'll be looking for you to demonstrate qualities that match our values.
So for all our vacancies, we'll want you to show that you're enthusiastic, open, honest and a team player. We want to see that you're proactive, committed to our industry and Kier, and as safety is paramount, you need to demonstrate you take the safety of yourself and others very seriously indeed.
Communication will also be key. Your application is the first chance to impress, so think long and hard about what you're saying. Try to be descriptive and detailed, but let your personality come across too - remember we believe our integrated approach only works because our people have individual flair. You'll need to show that to us too.
Attention to detail must be next on the list. Spelling and grammar (even if not essential to your role), makes a good impression, so make sure you double check everything before sending anything through.
We've mentioned that being a team player is important to us and you'll hear us mention it a lot. In group exercises, concentrate on interacting, making decisions, taking responsibility and listening as well. All are vital skills. We don't want show offs, we want well-rounded individuals. If you're writing about being a team player in an application, demonstrate what part you played and how you contributed.
You can't fake passion for this industry and we'll spot those that try. We're not trying to catch someone out, but we are trying to recruit people that have a genuine passion for what we do, so think how you can demonstrate this to us. Give examples when you're talking and get across how motivated you are, why you decided Kier is the company for you and what your hopes and aspirations are.
Beyond that we are looking for good organisational skills, a level head and someone who wants to grasp opportunities that are presented to them.
But most of all you need to be yourself. We want this to be a long-lasting relationship and it won't be if you haven't been true to yourself and us - as you need to like us as much as we need to like you to make this work. Good luck!
